May 2024 - August 2024
- Undertook a three-month placement with Oxford Nanopore Technologies, United Kingdom as part of my PhD between May and August 2024
- Worked on looking at using methylation information from a public dataset (The Cancer Genome Atlas) to determine specific genes for multicancer early detection (MCED) of renal cell carcinoma, prostate cancer and bladder cancer using bioinformatics methods with the long term aim of developing a single test for all three cancers based on methylation tests.
- Learnt about methylation based cancer classification for various cancers including central nervous system tumours and tried to apply the methodologies to urogenital tumours
- Worked with Oxford Nanopore sequencing technologies and was able to conduct experiments to optimise protocols for DNA sequencing using Nanopore machines - which are long-read sequencing technologies
- Learnt about the workings of a biotechnological company and specifically how an idea is transformed into a commercial product and all the processes involved in that
- Gained exposure to research in an industrial setting and the differences in requirement between my PhD and that

Associate Tutor, April 2024-Current
- Was involved in the planning and demonstration of three sessions on beginner level R programming to students at the University of East Anglia
- These involved helping prepare carefully tailored presentations for the sessions
- It also involved writing and testing out solutions to the different R exercises as part of the presentations
- The role also involved problem solving on the day helping students with any questions they may have on the subject as well as helping them with any technical difficulties they may have.
